AISHK New Parents' Welcome Activites

The AISHK Parent Association assists new parents to the school in a number of ways. The PA Committee has a New Parents Coordinator, who is responsible for contacting all new families and organising welcome morning teas, as well as Settling Into Hong Kong forums.

Welcome Morning Teas

Morning Teas are held on the first day of each term for all the divisions of the school (Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary). These are attended by both new and existing parents and members of the school community (including Head of School, senior staff members, PA members and Class Representatives). Dates are advised each term via Dhanara.

Settling into Hong Kong Forums

These forums are especially designed for families new to Hong Kong and are a great way to make contact with other new families to the school. They run in partnership with the school counsellors, parents, staff and outside providers. New parents receive a welcome pack containing current information about Hong Kong and AISHK. As Term 1 and 3 are the school’s largest intake periods, a series of four forums are offered for new parents to the school. The topics include:

  • Helping you to understand your emotional needs as you transition and adjust to a new place - led by the school counsellors

  • Practical tips and advice from experienced parents.

  • A representative of the Australian consulate in Hong Kong visits to explain the role of the consulate and the ways in which it is available to assist Australian citizens living in Hong Kong.

  • Your children's emotional needs, highlighting suggestions as to how you can meet these needs - led by the school counsellors.

  • Introduction to AISHK, hosted by the Head of School.

  • Chinese culture in Hong Kong, presented by a Chinese parent volunteer.

For Terms 2 and 4 intakes, we offer one forum for new families featuring practical tips and advice for settling into Hong Kong. New parents to the school in these terms are free to join the four forums that are run during the following term.
